As my daughter battles with her robotics degree, I reflect how hard it is for females to get into these jobs.
She is one of those unrecognised 2020 Covid-19 victims, whose last year of school was suddenly cut short March 2020, when the world stopped & certainly, schooling stopped in New Zealand. Suddenly at home, no remote teaching organised, she lost that vital year to have that teaching, have those labs that she needed to go ahead in 2021.
Into 2024, and she is still trying to gain her degree - but the years lost at maths/calculus are hard to overcome.
If you have a Covid child - a Covid girl - give some thought to how we can best support this group of lost GIRLS IN SCIENCE.
